The Red Hot Chili Peppers' debut album was released in 1984, a full five years before Bay Area "based goddess" Kreayshawn made her debut as a human being. Yet that's not stopping the two sides from joining forces on RHCP's new "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" video, which Kreay will direct.
That's according to reps for each act's respective labels (Warner Bros. and Columbia), who confirmed the collaboration to MTV News. "Maggie" is the first single from the Chili Peppers' much-anticipated I'm With You, their first studio album in more than five years.
Details on the video are scarce, and while the idea of Kreayshawn — the rapper who recently became the subject of an intense bidding war between labels thanks to her Internet smash "Gucci Gucci" — directing a video for the Red Hot Chili Peppers might seem like a rather interesting choice for the iconic group, she's actually been making clips for years (mostly notably for Lil B) and reportedly attended the Berkeley film school.
In fact, part of the reason Kreayshawn decided to ink a deal with Columbia Records was because they agreed to let her continue to make music videos, as she told MTV News earlier this month.
"Columbia was the best just because they were like, 'We want you to do exactly what you've been doing,' which is, like, I've been directing music videos, so they were like, 'We want you to keep doing that,' " she said. "You know, I do a little graphic design, and they had me make my own logo, you know?"
